Paulina Pannen

Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen effective from January 1, 2005, she has been appointed the Director of SEAMOLEC. The turnover was officiated in 24 January 24 2005 by the Minister of National Education. Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen then assumed office as the third director of SEAMOLEC replacing the outgoing Director Prof. Dr. Soekartawi.

Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen was born in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, in January 21, 1961. She is married to Pudjiantoro, and has one son, Erwin Rahmandita. She earned her degree of Sarjana Pendidikan in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from Teachers Training College (IKIP) Jakarta in 1984. Right afterward, she joined Universitas Terbuka (UT), Jakarta in 1984. She then earned her Master Degree in Information Studies from Syracuse University, USA, in 1987, and her Doctoral Degree in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation also from Syracuse University, USA, in 1990.

In 1990, she joined the Inter University Center for Developing and Improving Instructional Activities - a World Bank XVII Project - the auspices of UT. She served as Secretary of Academic Program for IUC-IDIA until 1997, when IUC-IDIA has been integrated into the existing structure of UT. In 1997 she assumed directorship of IUC - IDIA until 2001. She was elected Dean for Faculty of Education in UT in July 2001, and served her term until February 2005.

In IUC - IDIA, she dedicated her works in improving instructional activities in higher education setting in Indonesia. Further, as the Dean of Faculty of Education, the largest faculty of education in Indonesia with around 130.000 students of in-service training teachers, she had the opportunity to contribute intensively to the development of teacher education via open and distance education system in Indonesia.

She participated in various national as well as international seminars and workshop, wrote a number of articles and monographs, and conducted some research in the area of instructional technology and culture-based instruction. She was awarded Fellowship from Asian Scholarship Foundation in Bangkok to conduct research on culture-based teaching in the Philippines in 2002. Within her busy schedule, she is also teaching graduate courses in Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, and Universitas Lampung.
