Introduction to Vietnam Education System
The structure of the national education system is consists of :
- Pre-school Education,
- Primary Education,
- Secondary Education,
- Vocational Education, and
- Higher Education.
The first level in the basic general education was separated into more independent level-the primary education. The second level in the basic general education was merged into the secondary education level. The secondary education level is now including also professional/technical secondary education.
The higher education innovations could be emphasized with the restructure of the network of higher education institutions. Hanoi National University was set up embracing, the Hanoi University, the Pedagogical University and the Foreign Language Pedagogical University, and the National University was set up in Ho Chi Minh City, embracing nine local Universities.
Primary educational network has been strengthened ever since. The people's established kindergarten appeared everywhere. Primary schools have been spread until communes and villages.
The Education Law which was approved and issued by June 1999 had opened new steps of reorientation and improvement of the Education's quality.
The education system becomes more multiform: private, public, semi public, international, etc. In rural areas many continuing learning centers bring the light of culture and professional capacity to the young in the communities, thus create a new life in the remote communities.
There are four international schools in Vietnam: (1) Hanoi International School, (2) United Nations International School (Hanoi), (3) International Grammar School (HCM City), and (4) International School in South HCM City.
