INDONESIA OPEN UNIVERSITY (Universitas Terbuka)
INTRODUCTION
Universitas Terbuka (UT) is the 45th state university in Indonesia, established on 4 September 1984. It differs from universities because it is organized in a open learning mode. UT is responsible for expanding education opportunity, to strengthen the government commitment to improving the quality of education and to make education more relevant to national development needs. It also provides equality of opportunity through higher education for people who for various reasons, such as: geographical, socio-economical, or time constraints, are unable to attend the conventional higher education institutions. It is empowered to award degrees and other qualifications. An Indonesia Open Learning University degree is equal in academic standard to that of any Indonesian state university.
UT delivered its services to students throughout Indonesia; those reside in cities as well as at the remotest regions in the country. Services are provided through 36 Region Centers established in major cities of Indonesia. Currently (2005) the number of student enrolled is more than 220.000 students.
