Consulting Services

In the SEAMEO SEAMOLEC enabling instrument Section XIV point 4, it is stated that the center may engage in fund raising and income generating activities to support the activities of the center. SEAMEO Council in its meeting in Manila 5-7 March 2003 also suggested all centers to do activities that generate income for the centers.

These activities can be done through fee-based training, research, consulting services, etc.In order to overcome the fund shortage of the center, efforts have been done by SEAMOLEC, among others is doing consulting services.

The objective is not merely only for fund rising but also to harness and use the highly trained human resources of open and distance learning institutions for development activities. It taps the available expertise in the region by engaging the services of professional services to identify problems and propose solutions that will mainstream open and distance learning into development programs.In the past few years the main activities in consulting services in SEAMEO SEAMOLEC are provide technical assistance to client-partners institutions in project development, capacity building and other services needed by client-partners. SEAMOLEC activities in the area of consulting services provide in three general area, which are:

1. ICT System Development
2. Virtual Campus Development
3. Open and Distance Learning (ODL) System Development

Some of services which have been done by SEAMOLEC are:

1. Request from the Lao PDR Government to conduct Fact Finding Mission on the Establishment Distance Education in Lao PDR
2. Request from several Higher Education Institutions in Indonesia to conduct Training on the Preparation on Establishment Distance Education (i.e. Training on Self-Learning Material Development, On-line Learning, The Use of IT for Supporting On-line Learning).
3. Request from several Secondary Schools in Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Surakarta and Surabaya, to conduct Training on the Utilization of Internet for Teaching and Training Instruction.
4. Research on the Integration of ICT in the Teaching Mathematics and Science
5. Research on the Management of the Open Secondary Junior High Schools
6. Research on the Use of Internet for Remedial Learning in the Senior Secondary School
7. Request from Ministry of Education and Governing Board to conduct in-country training in SEAMEO members.
8. Provide resource persons for various seminars, workshop and training in the area of open and distance learning.
